Becoming Someone New in the New Year.
Why do we feel the need to reinvent ourselves every year? Isn't there already so much within us? I ask myself this every time a new year rolls around.
Personally, I have plenty of parts I still want to explore…
I don’t believe in forcing ourselves to become someone new—reinvention isn’t always the answer.
What I do believe in is looking inward and expanding from there…
So catch me doing that.
I feel like I’ve been so many different people since birth. There’s the side of me that’s kind and loving, very accepting… I consider this my compass.
Then there’s the melancholic side, manically sad, feels like nothing can fix the brokenness of my being.
There’s also a playful, silly part of me—juvenile and mischievous, often causing trouble. Trust me, I’ve got plenty of stories.
And then there’s an angry woman inside me, just waiting to erupt. She feels wronged and isn’t afraid to speak up to prove a point.
With all of these parts, why would I need a “new year, new me”?
These parts are always evolving, growing, and changing, and I have to accept them all.
This year, I plan to get curious about each of them and really explore who they are…
So, I invite you to check in with the different parts of yourself this new year, rather than trying to reinvent your whole being… you might be surprised by what you discover.
Until next time,
K
